About this place
Shikisai no Oka is a large hillside flower garden in Shinsei, on the southern side of Biei near Bibaushi. Stripes of seasonal flowers run down the slope with the Tokachi range behind, and outside the flower months it runs as a winter activity park.
This is a drive-to site: the nearest station, Bibaushi, is about a 25-minute walk away. Admission and parking are charged during the summer peak and free for the rest of the year, and opening hours change month by month, so check the official site before planning an early or late stop.

How to enter this in your car navigation
- On the navigation home screen, choose Destination (目的地).
- Choose Mapcode (マップコード) from the search methods.
- Type the digits, then the asterisk and the last two digits.
- Confirm the map preview shows the right area before you set the route.
Most Japanese rental cars (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Times, Orix) accept mapcodes. Some older units ignore the *nn suffix. That is fine, because it only refines the pin.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the mapcode for Shikisai no Oka?
- The mapcode is 349 701 188*87, pointing at a spot in 北海道. Written as decimal degrees the same point is 43.529173, 142.465082. A navigation unit takes the mapcode in far fewer keystrokes than the coordinates, so enter the code.
- What is a mapcode?
- A mapcode is a short numeric code that identifies a spot in Japan, developed by Denso. Japanese car navigation systems accept it directly, which avoids typing a Japanese address on a Japanese keyboard.
- How do I enter a mapcode in a Japanese rental car?
- On the navigation unit choose Destination (目的地), then Mapcode (マップコード), then type the digits. The two digits after the asterisk are an optional precision suffix; older units simply ignore them.
- What do the digits after the asterisk mean?
- They are a high-resolution suffix that narrows the point to roughly a few metres. Without them the code still resolves, just to a slightly wider area.
