About this place
Churaumi Aquarium is in Ocean Expo Park, Motobu Town, on Okinawa’s Motobu Peninsula. Its main tank holds whale sharks and manta rays and was the largest in the world when it opened.
Ocean Expo Park is big and its parking areas are numbered and spread along the site — the aquarium is at the north end, so a lot chosen at random can leave you a long walk with a shuttle in between. Park at the north lots if you are going straight to the aquarium. This is northern Okinawa, so allow around an hour and a half from Naha.

How to enter this in your car navigation
- On the navigation home screen, choose Destination (目的地).
- Choose Mapcode (マップコード) from the search methods.
- Type the digits, then the asterisk and the last two digits.
- Confirm the map preview shows the right area before you set the route.
Most Japanese rental cars (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Times, Orix) accept mapcodes. Some older units ignore the *nn suffix — that is fine, it only refines the pin.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the mapcode for Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium?
- The mapcode is 553 075 768*85, pointing at a spot in 沖縄県. Written as decimal degrees the same point is 26.694369, 127.878038. A navigation unit takes the mapcode in far fewer keystrokes than the coordinates, so enter the code.
- What is a mapcode?
- A mapcode is a short numeric code that identifies a spot in Japan, developed by Denso. Japanese car navigation systems accept it directly, which avoids typing a Japanese address on a Japanese keyboard.
- How do I enter a mapcode in a Japanese rental car?
- On the navigation unit choose Destination (目的地), then Mapcode (マップコード), then type the digits. The two digits after the asterisk are an optional precision suffix; older units simply ignore them.
- What do the digits after the asterisk mean?
- They are a high-resolution suffix that narrows the point to roughly a few metres. Without them the code still resolves, just to a slightly wider area.
