About this place
Kurumaebi Kitchen TAMAYA is a kuruma prawn restaurant on Yagaji Island in Nago, the island you cross on the way to Kouri Island. It opened in 2018 and is run together with a prawn farm whose ponds sit right in front of the dining room. The prawns are served as sashimi, tempura and fried set meals.
The mapcode drops you at the restaurant itself on Yagaji, a short detour from the road out to Kouri Bridge. It opens from lunch into the late afternoon and closes on Wednesdays and Thursdays, so check the day before building it into a Kouri Island visit.

How to enter this in your car navigation
- On the navigation home screen, choose Destination (目的地).
- Choose Mapcode (マップコード) from the search methods.
- Type the digits, then the asterisk and the last two digits.
- Confirm the map preview shows the right area before you set the route.
Most Japanese rental cars (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Times, Orix) accept mapcodes. Some older units ignore the *nn suffix. That is fine, because it only refines the pin.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the mapcode for Kurumaebi Kitchen TAMAYA?
- The mapcode is 485 600 233*32, pointing at a spot in 沖縄県. Written as decimal degrees the same point is 26.672868, 128.004503. A navigation unit takes the mapcode in far fewer keystrokes than the coordinates, so enter the code.
- What is a mapcode?
- A mapcode is a short numeric code that identifies a spot in Japan, developed by Denso. Japanese car navigation systems accept it directly, which avoids typing a Japanese address on a Japanese keyboard.
- How do I enter a mapcode in a Japanese rental car?
- On the navigation unit choose Destination (目的地), then Mapcode (マップコード), then type the digits. The two digits after the asterisk are an optional precision suffix; older units simply ignore them.
- What do the digits after the asterisk mean?
- They are a high-resolution suffix that narrows the point to roughly a few metres. Without them the code still resolves, just to a slightly wider area.
