About this place
Nakijin Castle Ruins occupy a ridge in Nakijin Village on the Motobu Peninsula, in northern Okinawa. The curving limestone walls date from the Ryukyu kingdoms era and the site is part of the UNESCO Gusuku listing; in late January the approach is lined with early-blooming cherry trees.
Northern Okinawa has no rail at all, so this is a drive-only site — roughly an hour and a half north of Naha along the west coast. It pairs naturally with Churaumi Aquarium and Kouri Bridge, all within about half an hour of each other.
Need a mapcode for somewhere else?

How to enter this in your car navigation
- On the navigation home screen, choose Destination (目的地).
- Choose Mapcode (マップコード) from the search methods.
- Type the digits, then the asterisk and the last two digits.
- Confirm the map preview shows the right area before you set the route.
Most Japanese rental cars (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Times, Orix) accept mapcodes. Some older units ignore the *nn suffix — that is fine, it only refines the pin.
Where these coordinates come from

Frequently asked questions
- What is the mapcode for Nakijin Castle Ruins?
- The mapcode is 553 081 384*81, pointing at a spot in 沖縄県. Written as decimal degrees the same point is 26.690778, 127.929778. A navigation unit takes the mapcode in far fewer keystrokes than the coordinates, so enter the code.
- What is a mapcode?
- A mapcode is a short numeric code that identifies a spot in Japan, developed by Denso. Japanese car navigation systems accept it directly, which avoids typing a Japanese address on a Japanese keyboard.
- How do I enter a mapcode in a Japanese rental car?
- On the navigation unit choose Destination (目的地), then Mapcode (マップコード), then type the digits. The two digits after the asterisk are an optional precision suffix; older units simply ignore them.
- What do the digits after the asterisk mean?
- They are a high-resolution suffix that narrows the point to roughly a few metres. Without them the code still resolves, just to a slightly wider area.
