About this place
Heart Rock is a pair of rocks standing in the shallows of Tinu Beach on the north shore of Kouri Island, Nakijin Village. Seen from the right angle, the gap between them forms a heart, a view that became famous after it appeared in a television commercial featuring the pop group Arashi.
Kouri Island is reached by the toll-free Kouri Bridge, 1,960 m long, from Yagaji Island. Several paid lots line the lane above the beach, and the closer to the sand, the higher the price. The mapcode sits in that cluster above the beach, and the last stretch down to the rocks is a short, steep path over uneven rock, so wear proper shoes.

How to enter this in your car navigation
- On the navigation home screen, choose Destination (目的地).
- Choose Mapcode (マップコード) from the search methods.
- Type the digits, then the asterisk and the last two digits.
- Confirm the map preview shows the right area before you set the route.
Most Japanese rental cars (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Times, Orix) accept mapcodes. Some older units ignore the *nn suffix. That is fine, because it only refines the pin.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the mapcode for Heart Rock (Kouri Island)?
- The mapcode is 485 752 002*36, pointing at a spot in 沖縄県. Written as decimal degrees the same point is 26.712526, 128.015363. A navigation unit takes the mapcode in far fewer keystrokes than the coordinates, so enter the code.
- What is a mapcode?
- A mapcode is a short numeric code that identifies a spot in Japan, developed by Denso. Japanese car navigation systems accept it directly, which avoids typing a Japanese address on a Japanese keyboard.
- How do I enter a mapcode in a Japanese rental car?
- On the navigation unit choose Destination (目的地), then Mapcode (マップコード), then type the digits. The two digits after the asterisk are an optional precision suffix; older units simply ignore them.
- What do the digits after the asterisk mean?
- They are a high-resolution suffix that narrows the point to roughly a few metres. Without them the code still resolves, just to a slightly wider area.
