About this place

Kuju Flower Park is a 20 ha flower park on the Kuju plateau in Taketa, Oita, at about 800 m, with fields planted in sweeps of colour from spring to autumn against the Kuju mountains. It opened in 1993.

The mapcode points into the park grounds beside the plateau road. The park is reached via the Yamanami Highway and Route 442, so it pairs easily with Kurokawa Onsen or the Kokonoe suspension bridge on the same day. It closes for the winter, roughly November to early March, so check the season before planning a detour.

How to enter this in your car navigation

  1. On the navigation home screen, choose Destination (目的地).
  2. Choose Mapcode (マップコード) from the search methods.
  3. Type the digits, then the asterisk and the last two digits.
  4. Confirm the map preview shows the right area before you set the route.

Most Japanese rental cars (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Times, Orix) accept mapcodes. Some older units ignore the *nn suffix. That is fine, because it only refines the pin.

Frequently asked questions

What is the mapcode for Kuju Flower Park?
The mapcode is 440 464 467*88, pointing at a spot in 大分県. Written as decimal degrees the same point is 33.049304, 131.243999. A navigation unit takes the mapcode in far fewer keystrokes than the coordinates, so enter the code.
What is a mapcode?
A mapcode is a short numeric code that identifies a spot in Japan, developed by Denso. Japanese car navigation systems accept it directly, which avoids typing a Japanese address on a Japanese keyboard.
How do I enter a mapcode in a Japanese rental car?
On the navigation unit choose Destination (目的地), then Mapcode (マップコード), then type the digits. The two digits after the asterisk are an optional precision suffix; older units simply ignore them.
What do the digits after the asterisk mean?
They are a high-resolution suffix that narrows the point to roughly a few metres. Without them the code still resolves, just to a slightly wider area.
