About this place
Gotemba Premium Outlets is a large outlet mall in Gotemba, Shizuoka, on the southeastern foot of Mount Fuji. It is one of the biggest outlet centres in Japan and an easy add-on to a Hakone or Fuji Five Lakes drive.
The mall is about ten minutes from either the Gotemba IC or the Ashigara Smart IC on the Tomei Expressway; the Ashigara Smart IC only takes ETC-equipped cars, so check your rental has a card before picking that exit. Parking is spread over several lots totalling around 7,000 spaces, and the mapcode drops you inside the site, so follow the on-site signs to whichever lot is open.
Need a mapcode for somewhere else?
This site covers 167 places. Your hotel, the rental return lot and the restaurant you booked need mapcodes too, and they are not on this list. The app converts any Japanese address or place name, in English, Korean, Chinese or Japanese. Free.
How to enter this in your car navigation
- On the navigation home screen, choose Destination (目的地).
- Choose Mapcode (マップコード) from the search methods.
- Type the digits, then the asterisk and the last two digits.
- Confirm the map preview shows the right area before you set the route.
Most Japanese rental cars (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Times, Orix) accept mapcodes. Some older units ignore the *nn suffix. That is fine, because it only refines the pin.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the mapcode for Gotemba Premium Outlets?
- The mapcode is 50 806 427*15, pointing at a spot in 静岡県. Written as decimal degrees the same point is 35.307271, 138.965647. A navigation unit takes the mapcode in far fewer keystrokes than the coordinates, so enter the code.
- What is a mapcode?
- A mapcode is a short numeric code that identifies a spot in Japan, developed by Denso. Japanese car navigation systems accept it directly, which avoids typing a Japanese address on a Japanese keyboard.
- How do I enter a mapcode in a Japanese rental car?
- On the navigation unit choose Destination (目的地), then Mapcode (マップコード), then type the digits. The two digits after the asterisk are an optional precision suffix; older units simply ignore them.
- What do the digits after the asterisk mean?
- They are a high-resolution suffix that narrows the point to roughly a few metres. Without them the code still resolves, just to a slightly wider area.
