About this place
Universal Studios Japan is the theme park on the Sakurajima waterfront in Konohana Ward, Osaka, opened in 2001 on former steelworks and shipyard land. Super Nintendo World and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter are among its themed areas.
The mapcode points inside the park, near Central Park and the Hollywood Dream coaster, not at a car park or the gate. Most visitors arrive by train at Universal City Station, about five minutes’ walk from the entrance, and the Universal City area outside the gate is built around that. If you drive, choose your car park before you set off and navigate to it directly.

This site covers 167 places. Your hotel, the rental return lot and the restaurant you booked need mapcodes too, and they are not on this list. The app converts any Japanese address or place name, in English, Korean, Chinese or Japanese. Free.
How to enter this in your car navigation
- On the navigation home screen, choose Destination (目的地).
- Choose Mapcode (マップコード) from the search methods.
- Type the digits, then the asterisk and the last two digits.
- Confirm the map preview shows the right area before you set the route.
Most Japanese rental cars (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Times, Orix) accept mapcodes. Some older units ignore the *nn suffix. That is fine, because it only refines the pin.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the mapcode for Universal Studios Japan?
- The mapcode is 1 277 427*82, pointing at a spot in 大阪府. Written as decimal degrees the same point is 34.665639, 135.432453. A navigation unit takes the mapcode in far fewer keystrokes than the coordinates, so enter the code.
- What is a mapcode?
- A mapcode is a short numeric code that identifies a spot in Japan, developed by Denso. Japanese car navigation systems accept it directly, which avoids typing a Japanese address on a Japanese keyboard.
- How do I enter a mapcode in a Japanese rental car?
- On the navigation unit choose Destination (目的地), then Mapcode (マップコード), then type the digits. The two digits after the asterisk are an optional precision suffix; older units simply ignore them.
- What do the digits after the asterisk mean?
- They are a high-resolution suffix that narrows the point to roughly a few metres. Without them the code still resolves, just to a slightly wider area.
