About this place
Tsutenkaku is the steel observation tower at the heart of Shinsekai, the old-fashioned entertainment district in Naniwa Ward, southern Osaka. The streets of kushikatsu restaurants around its base are as much the attraction as the view from the top.
Tsutenkaku has no parking of its own for cars or buses; use one of the paid lots nearby. From the Hanshin Expressway Loop Line, the Yuhigaoka exit is about five minutes away and the Namba exit about six. The streets of Shinsekai are narrow and busy with pedestrians, so park on the edge and walk in rather than looking for a space at the foot of the tower.

How to enter this in your car navigation
- On the navigation home screen, choose Destination (目的地).
- Choose Mapcode (マップコード) from the search methods.
- Type the digits, then the asterisk and the last two digits.
- Confirm the map preview shows the right area before you set the route.
Most Japanese rental cars (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Times, Orix) accept mapcodes. Some older units ignore the *nn suffix. That is fine, because it only refines the pin.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the mapcode for Tsutenkaku?
- The mapcode is 1 226 812*17, pointing at a spot in 大阪府. Written as decimal degrees the same point is 34.652539, 135.506310. A navigation unit takes the mapcode in far fewer keystrokes than the coordinates, so enter the code.
- What is a mapcode?
- A mapcode is a short numeric code that identifies a spot in Japan, developed by Denso. Japanese car navigation systems accept it directly, which avoids typing a Japanese address on a Japanese keyboard.
- How do I enter a mapcode in a Japanese rental car?
- On the navigation unit choose Destination (目的地), then Mapcode (マップコード), then type the digits. The two digits after the asterisk are an optional precision suffix; older units simply ignore them.
- What do the digits after the asterisk mean?
- They are a high-resolution suffix that narrows the point to roughly a few metres. Without them the code still resolves, just to a slightly wider area.
