About this place
The Nirai Kanai Bridge is a pair of curving bridges, about 660 m in all, that drop some 80 m from the hills of Nanjo City down to Route 331 on the Chinen coast. Coming down from the top, the whole Pacific opens up ahead of you, with Kudaka Island offshore.
The mapcode points at the viewing spot on top of the tunnel at the upper end. There is no car park at the viewpoint and stopping on the bridge itself is prohibited, so check the signs before pulling over anywhere nearby. For the classic view, approach from the hill side (Prefectural Route 86) and drive down towards the sea; the sea faces east, so late morning to early afternoon light is best.

How to enter this in your car navigation
- On the navigation home screen, choose Destination (目的地).
- Choose Mapcode (マップコード) from the search methods.
- Type the digits, then the asterisk and the last two digits.
- Confirm the map preview shows the right area before you set the route.
Most Japanese rental cars (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Times, Orix) accept mapcodes. Some older units ignore the *nn suffix. That is fine, because it only refines the pin.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the mapcode for Nirai Kanai Bridge?
- The mapcode is 232 593 511*00, pointing at a spot in 沖縄県. Written as decimal degrees the same point is 26.167229, 127.815118. A navigation unit takes the mapcode in far fewer keystrokes than the coordinates, so enter the code.
- What is a mapcode?
- A mapcode is a short numeric code that identifies a spot in Japan, developed by Denso. Japanese car navigation systems accept it directly, which avoids typing a Japanese address on a Japanese keyboard.
- How do I enter a mapcode in a Japanese rental car?
- On the navigation unit choose Destination (目的地), then Mapcode (マップコード), then type the digits. The two digits after the asterisk are an optional precision suffix; older units simply ignore them.
- What do the digits after the asterisk mean?
- They are a high-resolution suffix that narrows the point to roughly a few metres. Without them the code still resolves, just to a slightly wider area.
