About this place
Cape Zanpa is the headland at the western tip of Yomitan Village, where cliffs about 30 m high run for some 2 km along the East China Sea. The white Zanpa lighthouse, 31 m tall, stands near the point and can be climbed for a view along the coast.
The cape is about 30 minutes from Okinawa-Kita IC, and Cape Zanpa Park has a free car park of around 270 spaces. The mapcode points at the cape viewpoint itself, a short walk from the lighthouse.

How to enter this in your car navigation
- On the navigation home screen, choose Destination (目的地).
- Choose Mapcode (マップコード) from the search methods.
- Type the digits, then the asterisk and the last two digits.
- Confirm the map preview shows the right area before you set the route.
Most Japanese rental cars (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Times, Orix) accept mapcodes. Some older units ignore the *nn suffix. That is fine, because it only refines the pin.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the mapcode for Cape Zanpa?
- The mapcode is 1005 685 349*17, pointing at a spot in 沖縄県. Written as decimal degrees the same point is 26.440496, 127.711919. A navigation unit takes the mapcode in far fewer keystrokes than the coordinates, so enter the code.
- What is a mapcode?
- A mapcode is a short numeric code that identifies a spot in Japan, developed by Denso. Japanese car navigation systems accept it directly, which avoids typing a Japanese address on a Japanese keyboard.
- How do I enter a mapcode in a Japanese rental car?
- On the navigation unit choose Destination (目的地), then Mapcode (マップコード), then type the digits. The two digits after the asterisk are an optional precision suffix; older units simply ignore them.
- What do the digits after the asterisk mean?
- They are a high-resolution suffix that narrows the point to roughly a few metres. Without them the code still resolves, just to a slightly wider area.
