About this place
Yonaha Maehama Beach stretches about 7 km along the south-west tip of Miyako Island, in the Shimoji area, looking across to Kurima Island and the Kurima Bridge. Its white sand took first place in TripAdvisor’s 2019 ranking of Japan’s best beaches.
The mapcode points at the beach access by the free car park, which has changing rooms, showers, toilets and a café. Typhoons since 2018 have eroded parts of the beach into steep sand banks up to about 3 m high, so take care getting down to the water in places.

How to enter this in your car navigation
- On the navigation home screen, choose Destination (目的地).
- Choose Mapcode (マップコード) from the search methods.
- Type the digits, then the asterisk and the last two digits.
- Confirm the map preview shows the right area before you set the route.
Most Japanese rental cars (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Times, Orix) accept mapcodes. Some older units ignore the *nn suffix. That is fine, because it only refines the pin.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the mapcode for Yonaha Maehama Beach?
- The mapcode is 310 211 652*28, pointing at a spot in 沖縄県. Written as decimal degrees the same point is 24.735232, 125.262731. A navigation unit takes the mapcode in far fewer keystrokes than the coordinates, so enter the code.
- What is a mapcode?
- A mapcode is a short numeric code that identifies a spot in Japan, developed by Denso. Japanese car navigation systems accept it directly, which avoids typing a Japanese address on a Japanese keyboard.
- How do I enter a mapcode in a Japanese rental car?
- On the navigation unit choose Destination (目的地), then Mapcode (マップコード), then type the digits. The two digits after the asterisk are an optional precision suffix; older units simply ignore them.
- What do the digits after the asterisk mean?
- They are a high-resolution suffix that narrows the point to roughly a few metres. Without them the code still resolves, just to a slightly wider area.
