About this place
Cape Higashi-Hennazaki is a narrow limestone spit about 2 km long at the south-east corner of Miyako Island, designated a national place of scenic beauty. The Hennazaki lighthouse near the end can be climbed, and in April and May the grassland is covered in wild Easter lilies.
It is about 35 minutes by car from Miyako Airport, by way of Prefectural Route 83. The mapcode lands near the end of the cape road by Mamuya’s Grave, a short walk from the lighthouse along the footpath. Since December 2021 the local community has asked visitors for an entry contribution of ¥300 or more.

How to enter this in your car navigation
- On the navigation home screen, choose Destination (目的地).
- Choose Mapcode (マップコード) from the search methods.
- Type the digits, then the asterisk and the last two digits.
- Confirm the map preview shows the right area before you set the route.
Most Japanese rental cars (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Times, Orix) accept mapcodes. Some older units ignore the *nn suffix. That is fine, because it only refines the pin.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the mapcode for Cape Higashi-Hennazaki?
- The mapcode is 310 206 091*56, pointing at a spot in 沖縄県. Written as decimal degrees the same point is 24.721679, 125.465271. A navigation unit takes the mapcode in far fewer keystrokes than the coordinates, so enter the code.
- What is a mapcode?
- A mapcode is a short numeric code that identifies a spot in Japan, developed by Denso. Japanese car navigation systems accept it directly, which avoids typing a Japanese address on a Japanese keyboard.
- How do I enter a mapcode in a Japanese rental car?
- On the navigation unit choose Destination (目的地), then Mapcode (マップコード), then type the digits. The two digits after the asterisk are an optional precision suffix; older units simply ignore them.
- What do the digits after the asterisk mean?
- They are a high-resolution suffix that narrows the point to roughly a few metres. Without them the code still resolves, just to a slightly wider area.
