About this place
Uzunomichi is a walkway with glass floor panels built into the underside of the Onaruto Bridge, running out from Naruto Park in Tokushima over the Naruto Strait. It is 450 m long and about 45 m above the sea, and the point of going is to look straight down on the whirlpools that form when the tide turns.
The mapcode points at the Uzunomichi entrance building inside Naruto Park, which has no car park of its own. Leave the car in Naruto Park’s paid parking and walk the rest. The whirlpools are only strong around the tidal peaks, so check the tide table for your day before you choose an arrival time.

How to enter this in your car navigation
- On the navigation home screen, choose Destination (目的地).
- Choose Mapcode (マップコード) from the search methods.
- Type the digits, then the asterisk and the last two digits.
- Confirm the map preview shows the right area before you set the route.
Most Japanese rental cars (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Times, Orix) accept mapcodes. Some older units ignore the *nn suffix. That is fine, because it only refines the pin.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the mapcode for Uzunomichi?
- The mapcode is 406 212 851*85, pointing at a spot in 徳島県. Written as decimal degrees the same point is 34.236170, 134.641982. A navigation unit takes the mapcode in far fewer keystrokes than the coordinates, so enter the code.
- What is a mapcode?
- A mapcode is a short numeric code that identifies a spot in Japan, developed by Denso. Japanese car navigation systems accept it directly, which avoids typing a Japanese address on a Japanese keyboard.
- How do I enter a mapcode in a Japanese rental car?
- On the navigation unit choose Destination (目的地), then Mapcode (マップコード), then type the digits. The two digits after the asterisk are an optional precision suffix; older units simply ignore them.
- What do the digits after the asterisk mean?
- They are a high-resolution suffix that narrows the point to roughly a few metres. Without them the code still resolves, just to a slightly wider area.
