About this place

The Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station is the highest point on Mount Fuji reachable by car, at roughly 2,300 m on the Yamanashi side. It is the trailhead for the Yoshida route and, for most visitors, simply the closest they will drive to the mountain.

The Subaru Line is a toll road, and during the summer climbing season private cars are barred for a set period — you park at the base and take a shuttle instead. Check the restriction dates before you set out; the mapcode will route you happily to a closed gate otherwise.

Need a mapcode for somewhere else?

This site covers 30 places. Your hotel, the rental return lot, the restaurant you booked — those need mapcodes too, and they are not on this list. The app converts any Japanese address or place name, in English, Korean, Chinese or Japanese. Free.

How to enter this in your car navigation

  1. On the navigation home screen, choose Destination (目的地).
  2. Choose Mapcode (マップコード) from the search methods.
  3. Type the digits, then the asterisk and the last two digits.
  4. Confirm the map preview shows the right area before you set the route.

Most Japanese rental cars (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Times, Orix) accept mapcodes. Some older units ignore the *nn suffix — that is fine, it only refines the pin.

Where these coordinates come from

This was another repeat search failure — six misses in thirty days — because the place is known by several names in different languages and none of them geocode cleanly. The coordinates were cross-checked against NAVITIME’s 5th Station terminal position.

Frequently asked questions

What is the mapcode for Mount Fuji 5th Station?
The mapcode is 689 193 820*28, pointing at a spot in 山梨県. Written as decimal degrees the same point is 35.394300, 138.733000. A navigation unit takes the mapcode in far fewer keystrokes than the coordinates, so enter the code.
What is a mapcode?
A mapcode is a short numeric code that identifies a spot in Japan, developed by Denso. Japanese car navigation systems accept it directly, which avoids typing a Japanese address on a Japanese keyboard.
How do I enter a mapcode in a Japanese rental car?
On the navigation unit choose Destination (目的地), then Mapcode (マップコード), then type the digits. The two digits after the asterisk are an optional precision suffix; older units simply ignore them.
What do the digits after the asterisk mean?
They are a high-resolution suffix that narrows the point to roughly a few metres. Without them the code still resolves, just to a slightly wider area.
