About this place

Yamanakako Hanano Miyako Park is a 30-hectare flower park a short way north-west of Lake Yamanaka, in Yamanakako Village, Yamanashi, where seasonal fields of tulips, sunflowers and cosmos are planted against Mount Fuji. Admission is charged only for the Seiryu-no-Sato area, with its waterfall, water playground and greenhouse.

The mapcode points at the park’s car park, which costs 300 yen per car and is the one visitors are asked to use. Its hours follow the park: 8:30 to 17:30 from mid-April to mid-October and 9:00 to 16:30 the rest of the year. Between 1 December and 15 March the park closes on Tuesdays.

How to enter this in your car navigation

  1. On the navigation home screen, choose Destination (目的地).
  2. Choose Mapcode (マップコード) from the search methods.
  3. Type the digits, then the asterisk and the last two digits.
  4. Confirm the map preview shows the right area before you set the route.

Most Japanese rental cars (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Times, Orix) accept mapcodes. Some older units ignore the *nn suffix. That is fine, because it only refines the pin.

Frequently asked questions

What is the mapcode for Yamanakako Hanano Miyako Park?
The mapcode is 161 072 493*58, pointing at a spot in 山梨県. Written as decimal degrees the same point is 35.441068, 138.850472. A navigation unit takes the mapcode in far fewer keystrokes than the coordinates, so enter the code.
What is a mapcode?
A mapcode is a short numeric code that identifies a spot in Japan, developed by Denso. Japanese car navigation systems accept it directly, which avoids typing a Japanese address on a Japanese keyboard.
How do I enter a mapcode in a Japanese rental car?
On the navigation unit choose Destination (目的地), then Mapcode (マップコード), then type the digits. The two digits after the asterisk are an optional precision suffix; older units simply ignore them.
What do the digits after the asterisk mean?
They are a high-resolution suffix that narrows the point to roughly a few metres. Without them the code still resolves, just to a slightly wider area.
