About this place
Kokusai Dori is Naha’s main shopping street, running about 1.6 km from the Kumoji end near the prefectural office to the Asato junction. It is lined with souvenir shops and restaurants.
The street is a destination to walk, not to drive along. There is no parking on it, and traffic rules change through the week: on weekdays it is bus-only from 7:00 to 9:00 and 17:30 to 19:30, and on Sundays from 12:00 to 18:00 it closes to private cars as a pedestrian mall. Use the mapcode to reach the area, then park in a coin lot on a side street.

This site covers 167 places. Your hotel, the rental return lot and the restaurant you booked need mapcodes too, and they are not on this list. The app converts any Japanese address or place name, in English, Korean, Chinese or Japanese. Free.
How to enter this in your car navigation
- On the navigation home screen, choose Destination (目的地).
- Choose Mapcode (マップコード) from the search methods.
- Type the digits, then the asterisk and the last two digits.
- Confirm the map preview shows the right area before you set the route.
Most Japanese rental cars (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Times, Orix) accept mapcodes. Some older units ignore the *nn suffix. That is fine, because it only refines the pin.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the mapcode for Kokusai Dori?
- The mapcode is 33 157 215*83, pointing at a spot in 沖縄県. Written as decimal degrees the same point is 26.214479, 127.682809. A navigation unit takes the mapcode in far fewer keystrokes than the coordinates, so enter the code.
- What is a mapcode?
- A mapcode is a short numeric code that identifies a spot in Japan, developed by Denso. Japanese car navigation systems accept it directly, which avoids typing a Japanese address on a Japanese keyboard.
- How do I enter a mapcode in a Japanese rental car?
- On the navigation unit choose Destination (目的地), then Mapcode (マップコード), then type the digits. The two digits after the asterisk are an optional precision suffix; older units simply ignore them.
- What do the digits after the asterisk mean?
- They are a high-resolution suffix that narrows the point to roughly a few metres. Without them the code still resolves, just to a slightly wider area.
