About this place
Kabira Bay is on the north-west coast of Ishigaki Island, a reef-ringed bay dotted with small islands whose water shifts colour with the light and the tide. It is a national place of scenic beauty and lies inside Iriomote-Ishigaki National Park; black pearls are farmed in the bay.
The mapcode points at Kabira Park on the south shore, where the glass-bottom boats leave and where the car parks are, about 25 minutes from central Ishigaki. Swimming is prohibited because of strong currents, so the boats are the way to see the coral.

How to enter this in your car navigation
- On the navigation home screen, choose Destination (目的地).
- Choose Mapcode (マップコード) from the search methods.
- Type the digits, then the asterisk and the last two digits.
- Confirm the map preview shows the right area before you set the route.
Most Japanese rental cars (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Times, Orix) accept mapcodes. Some older units ignore the *nn suffix. That is fine, because it only refines the pin.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the mapcode for Kabira Bay?
- The mapcode is 366 422 819*34, pointing at a spot in 沖縄県. Written as decimal degrees the same point is 24.461930, 124.142732. A navigation unit takes the mapcode in far fewer keystrokes than the coordinates, so enter the code.
- What is a mapcode?
- A mapcode is a short numeric code that identifies a spot in Japan, developed by Denso. Japanese car navigation systems accept it directly, which avoids typing a Japanese address on a Japanese keyboard.
- How do I enter a mapcode in a Japanese rental car?
- On the navigation unit choose Destination (目的地), then Mapcode (マップコード), then type the digits. The two digits after the asterisk are an optional precision suffix; older units simply ignore them.
- What do the digits after the asterisk mean?
- They are a high-resolution suffix that narrows the point to roughly a few metres. Without them the code still resolves, just to a slightly wider area.
