About this place
Enoshima is a small island about 4 km around, joined to the Fujisawa shore in Kanagawa by a sandbar and two bridges. Enoshima Shrine and the Sea Candle observation tower sit on top, and it is the usual turnaround point for drives along the Shonan coast.
Cars cross on the Enoshima Ohashi road bridge; the parallel Benten Bridge is for pedestrians only. All public parking is paid and limited. The island’s public lots hold roughly 600 cars between them, which is not enough on summer weekends, so arrive early or park on the mainland side and walk across. The mapcode points at the island itself; once over the bridge, follow the lot signs.

This site covers 167 places. Your hotel, the rental return lot and the restaurant you booked need mapcodes too, and they are not on this list. The app converts any Japanese address or place name, in English, Korean, Chinese or Japanese. Free.
How to enter this in your car navigation
- On the navigation home screen, choose Destination (目的地).
- Choose Mapcode (マップコード) from the search methods.
- Type the digits, then the asterisk and the last two digits.
- Confirm the map preview shows the right area before you set the route.
Most Japanese rental cars (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Times, Orix) accept mapcodes. Some older units ignore the *nn suffix. That is fine, because it only refines the pin.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the mapcode for Enoshima?
- The mapcode is 15 178 541*13, pointing at a spot in 神奈川県. Written as decimal degrees the same point is 35.300105, 139.480637. A navigation unit takes the mapcode in far fewer keystrokes than the coordinates, so enter the code.
- What is a mapcode?
- A mapcode is a short numeric code that identifies a spot in Japan, developed by Denso. Japanese car navigation systems accept it directly, which avoids typing a Japanese address on a Japanese keyboard.
- How do I enter a mapcode in a Japanese rental car?
- On the navigation unit choose Destination (目的地), then Mapcode (マップコード), then type the digits. The two digits after the asterisk are an optional precision suffix; older units simply ignore them.
- What do the digits after the asterisk mean?
- They are a high-resolution suffix that narrows the point to roughly a few metres. Without them the code still resolves, just to a slightly wider area.
