About this place
Adventure World is a combined zoo, safari park and marine park in Shirahama, southern Wakayama, close to Nanki-Shirahama Airport. Visitors come for the safari area, the large penguin colony and the marine show.
The park is about ten minutes from the Nanki-Shirahama IC on the Kisei Expressway. Its car park uses camera-based number-plate management with no barrier gates, so follow the payment instructions at the park rather than looking for a ticket machine on the way in. The park has non-operating days, so check the operating calendar on the official site before you drive down.

How to enter this in your car navigation
- On the navigation home screen, choose Destination (目的地).
- Choose Mapcode (マップコード) from the search methods.
- Type the digits, then the asterisk and the last two digits.
- Confirm the map preview shows the right area before you set the route.
Most Japanese rental cars (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Times, Orix) accept mapcodes. Some older units ignore the *nn suffix. That is fine, because it only refines the pin.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the mapcode for Adventure World (Shirahama)?
- The mapcode is 457 570 674*35, pointing at a spot in 和歌山県. Written as decimal degrees the same point is 33.667999, 135.376207. A navigation unit takes the mapcode in far fewer keystrokes than the coordinates, so enter the code.
- What is a mapcode?
- A mapcode is a short numeric code that identifies a spot in Japan, developed by Denso. Japanese car navigation systems accept it directly, which avoids typing a Japanese address on a Japanese keyboard.
- How do I enter a mapcode in a Japanese rental car?
- On the navigation unit choose Destination (目的地), then Mapcode (マップコード), then type the digits. The two digits after the asterisk are an optional precision suffix; older units simply ignore them.
- What do the digits after the asterisk mean?
- They are a high-resolution suffix that narrows the point to roughly a few metres. Without them the code still resolves, just to a slightly wider area.
