About this place

Odaiba Seaside Park wraps around a sandy cove on the Odaiba waterfront in Minato Ward, facing the Rainbow Bridge and, beyond it, central Tokyo. It joins Daiba Park on the Third Daiba, one of the Edo-period gun-battery islands, and is best known for sunset and night views.

The park has two car parks of its own, both open 24 hours: the Central car park (about 100 spaces) and the North car park (about 240). The North car park is the better choice for Daiba Park. The park’s east and west ends are about as far apart as Odaiba-kaihinkoen and Daiba stations on the Yurikamome line, so choose the car park nearest the section you want rather than the first one the navigation finds.

Need a mapcode for somewhere else?

This site covers 167 places. Your hotel, the rental return lot and the restaurant you booked need mapcodes too, and they are not on this list. The app converts any Japanese address or place name, in English, Korean, Chinese or Japanese. Free.

How to enter this in your car navigation

  1. On the navigation home screen, choose Destination (目的地).
  2. Choose Mapcode (マップコード) from the search methods.
  3. Type the digits, then the asterisk and the last two digits.
  4. Confirm the map preview shows the right area before you set the route.

Most Japanese rental cars (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Times, Orix) accept mapcodes. Some older units ignore the *nn suffix. That is fine, because it only refines the pin.

Frequently asked questions

What is the mapcode for Odaiba Seaside Park?
The mapcode is 468 320*50, pointing at a spot in 東京都. Written as decimal degrees the same point is 35.631084, 139.777354. A navigation unit takes the mapcode in far fewer keystrokes than the coordinates, so enter the code.
What is a mapcode?
A mapcode is a short numeric code that identifies a spot in Japan, developed by Denso. Japanese car navigation systems accept it directly, which avoids typing a Japanese address on a Japanese keyboard.
How do I enter a mapcode in a Japanese rental car?
On the navigation unit choose Destination (目的地), then Mapcode (マップコード), then type the digits. The two digits after the asterisk are an optional precision suffix; older units simply ignore them.
What do the digits after the asterisk mean?
They are a high-resolution suffix that narrows the point to roughly a few metres. Without them the code still resolves, just to a slightly wider area.
